Tithes

Friday, August 13, 2010

"Ever since the time of your forefather, you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me and I will return to you say the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. ‘But you ask, “How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse – the whole nation of you – because you are robbing me, “Bring the whole tithe into the store house that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruits says the Lord Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed for yours will be a delightful land says the Lord Almighty ’.
(Malachi 3:7-12)

There are many arguments in church today why Christians don’t pay tithes
· Some believe that tithing has no place with new testament Christians because we are not under the law
o These individuals misunderstand the reason for giving. It is not the law that motivates Christians to give, but rather it is Love.
· Financial Problem
o Some people claim they cannot afford to tithe. Actually, financial giving to God along with biblical principle of finance is the road back to financial well-being
· Faith Problem
o It is not the lack of finances which keep one from tithing, but rather it is lack of faith. Failure to tithe is a failure of your faith.
You ought to give 10% of your gross income (before taxes) and you will soon understand that you cannot out give God. Malachi talks about the 2 promises of giving for those who are faithful to honor God with their tithes and offerings
· Promise of Provision
o God has promised an abundant blessing for those who trust Him by giving their tithes and their offerings. Will you not prove God?
· Promise of Protection.
o God will rebuke the devil for your sake and he shall not destroy your labor and everyone will call you blessed.
You will either pay your tithes to God or end up giving it to the doctor to mechanic. God always gets his tithes! The choice as to whom you give your tithes to is yours. So Give to God that you might grow!!!!
