Stay On Your Own Lane

Saturday, February 26, 2011

There's something about staying on your own lane while running a race, and that's what today's topic is all about. The fact that you were not created to be like someone else, the fact that your purpose is unique and divine, should urge you to remain in your own lane in this race of life, rather than seek to be someone else.

Do you know what it means to run in an 800 or 1500meters Olympic race?

The race:
In the 800 meters, runners must remain in their lanes until they pass through the first turn. In races of 1500 meters or longer run on a track, competitors are generally divided into two groups at the start, with approximately 65 percent of the runners on the regular, arced starting line and the remainder on a separate, arced starting line marked across the outer half of the track. The latter group must remain on the outer half of the track until they pass through the first turn.

So there's a reason why we must remain in our own lanes.

References:

God never created clones. He created individuals whom He has already set apart for a unique purpose in life (Psalm 139:1-16): "O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up....For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made...Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them."

-Like the soldiers in a battalion, everyone of us should march in formation and not break our ranks (Joel 2:7-8): "They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; everyone marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. They do not push one another; everyone marches in his own column."

Examples of unique individuals in the bible:
-Nathaniel was a man in whom there was no deceit, he was blunt (John 1:43-50)
-Esther was placed in the kingdom because God trusted that she would rescue her people (Esther 4:13-14)
-Two people ran to give a message, one was not sent. (2 Samuel 18:19-32)
-Paul & his personal values (1 Corinthians 7:7)
-John & Jesus both baptized people, but each one's baptism was unique (Matthew 3:11-12).

Question:
-How many times have you tried to be like someone else and succeeded?

This is so insightful. we all unique with unique things God wants for us to do. We cant really be anybody else, they r already taken. We cant do things like any other person coz we are not them...There is not nee to try, we have our very own lane to run in this race. If we dont, who will?

Hello Cyruswoman, the question you asked is so pertinent: "If we don't, who will?" The answer is "No one else will."

Thanks, and we're glad this was insightful.
