Choices and Doing Things in Order

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Presented by Chinenye Aneke

Sometimes in life we are presented with multiple choices and some may seem more tempting than others but in the grand scheme of things is it God's will? You know the path that God has directed you to take but you don't want to take it because the other choice seems more tempting. Not saying that God always gives us what we perceive to be the short end of the stick. He can make it really obvious that the choice which will bring greater blessing is the right choice. We know that God has our best interest at heart. He can place the right choice in front of our hands but greed and/or distractions can make you go after the largest prize instead of taking baby steps to realize your dream.

So, we know that God is merciful and He gives us many second chances to get it right. But there are sometimes when things will just not add up or go as you expected because you are not following explicitly the plan God has laid out for your life. God is a God of order and until you take corrective action things will not align properly. Jaycee alluded to that last week when she talked about unforgiveness obstructing our passion for God.

Look at the lives of Saul, David and even Solomon. In 1 Samuel 15, God instructed Saul and how he should handle the battle with the Amalekites but because he was anxious and wanted to show he was boss, he didn't kill the Amalekite King and kept the best of the spoil. Read 1 Samuel 15: 11. Insecurity and anxiety is rooted in not trusting God, which is why we take matters into our own hands, or go after what we think is the bigger prize.

Burn...

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Presented by Ayodeji Olorunnisola
For the zeal of thine house has eaten me up…Psalm 69 vs. 9,

Have you ever gotten to a point with God where you completely dote over Him? The praise of His name literally exhilarates you and the desire for Him consumes you.

Throughout the Bible, the one practitioner who truly embodies this emotion was David; he further described in Psalm 42 vs. 1, "As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for you O’ God.” It is simply a delightful feeling to truly be in Love with God and passionately desire Him.

But does this feeling still linger in today’s Christian? Can we find this sort of attitude in today’s worship? Sabbath worship is attended out of obligation, a weekly routine done out of habit or simply to rid oneself of guilt. Prayers are scattered recitals, with no passion, no feeling. Not courtesy of bended knees, not holy palmers kiss.

We cannot allow ourselves to slip into this robotic mode, we must burn with passion for Christ, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” Matt: 11 vs. 12 tells us.

Does the word of God still feel like fire within your bones, do you long for Him?

How God Reveals His Will to Us

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Look at the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and you’ll discover how God speaks to us and gives us direction. They thought they’d seen the death of Jesus and His movement. Fearful and disillusioned, they packed their bags and headed for home, when suddenly Jesus appeared to them. How does the Lord reveal His will to us?

The simplicity of the process may surprise you:

(1) Through others. Their first mistake was to disregard the words of their fellow disciples. “Today some women among us amazed us. Early this morning they went to the tomb, but they did not find his body there. They came and told us…Jesus was alive!” (Lk 24:22-23 NCV). God still works that way. He still speaks to us through others. That’s why you need to attend church regularly and build relationships that strengthen you.

(2) Through Scripture. “Starting with what Moses and all the prophets had said about him, Jesus began to explain everything that had been written about himself in the Scriptures” (v. 27 NCV). Their second mistake was disregarding the Word of God and listening to their fears. Are you doing that? God still speaks through His Word; the answers you need are in your Bible.

(3) Through our heart’s desire. “They said to each other, ‘It felt like a fire burning in us when Jesus talked to us.’” God reveals His will to us by giving us a burning desire. What fuels and focuses you? Singles? The inner city? Untouched nations? Forgotten orphans? Whatever it is—heed the fire within you!
