Burn...

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Presented by Ayodeji Olorunnisola
For the zeal of thine house has eaten me up…Psalm 69 vs. 9,

Have you ever gotten to a point with God where you completely dote over Him? The praise of His name literally exhilarates you and the desire for Him consumes you.

Throughout the Bible, the one practitioner who truly embodies this emotion was David; he further described in Psalm 42 vs. 1, "As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for you O’ God.” It is simply a delightful feeling to truly be in Love with God and passionately desire Him.

But does this feeling still linger in today’s Christian? Can we find this sort of attitude in today’s worship? Sabbath worship is attended out of obligation, a weekly routine done out of habit or simply to rid oneself of guilt. Prayers are scattered recitals, with no passion, no feeling. Not courtesy of bended knees, not holy palmers kiss.

We cannot allow ourselves to slip into this robotic mode, we must burn with passion for Christ, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” Matt: 11 vs. 12 tells us.

Does the word of God still feel like fire within your bones, do you long for Him?

The God we serve is a God of reciprocity and whatever honor we ascribe to Him, however way we treat Him is the way He will treat us too. Serve Him fervently and get intimate with Him. And just like the disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, His presence will be around you and your very heart will burn within you.

If you feel like your relationship with Christ has gradually been going stale, then refresh it by spending consistent and focused time in dialogue and communion with Him. You cannot fake it because He looks at the hearts of men, it has to be deliberate. Just like you would regularly share your affection with a lover, genuinely long for God. Let your worship be seasoned with passion, your prayers with focus and fire and let your zeal for Him burn for the world to see.
