Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
(Psalm 141:3)
The Bible talks a lot about our lips, our speech, and the power of words. Did you know the word "lips" is referred to over 100 times in the Bible? ("Tongue" over 100 times, "words" over 500 times, and "mouth" over 400 times.)
Words can uplift (Prov. 16:24) and destroy (Prov. 15:4). Words can trigger anger or defuse it (Prov. 15:1). God detests lying words (Prov. 6:16-17, Ps. 12:2-4) but seeks those who speak the truth (Ps. 15:2).
What exits the door of your lips is evidence of what is in your heart (Luke 6:45).
James warns us to keep a tight rein on our mouths (1:26). That can be a daunting task – unless you allow God to set a guard over your mouth that will keep watch over the door of your lips

Great word. The book of James also talks about how we can bless and we can curse with our words!
Yes it does, our words are that powerful. Thanks PeaceofMind.
If we knew how 'powerful' (to make or to mar) our words are, more of us will be reverent them.
