Don’t give the devil a foothold

Monday, December 13, 2010

Presented by Yewande Sofolahan
Adapted from Hillsong London’s podcast
Text: Eph. 4: 26-27
What does it mean to give the devil a foothold?
It means not to give the devil an opportunity to latch onto a situation/ circumstance that will cause our joy to be stolen. When the devil gains a foothold, all he has to do is keep gaining ground a little at a time. Eventually, he will accomplish what he set out to do, which is to destroy, kill and steal your joy (John 10:10).

God’s Favor

Friday, November 12, 2010

“Find favor…in the sight of God and man.” Pr 3:4 NKJV

To fulfill your God-given assignment in life you will need God’s favor! How did Joseph go from being a lowly inmate to running the whole prison system? “The Lord was with Joseph…and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison…whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper” (Ge 39:21-23 NKJV). Why did King Ahasuerus choose a Jewish slave girl named Esther to be his queen? “She obtained grace and favor in his sight…so he set the royal crown upon her head” (Est 2:17 NKJV). How did Samuel go from being a custodian in the temple to being a prophetic voice of the nation? “Samuel grew…in favor both with the Lord and men” (1Sa 2:26 NKJV). What did all these favored people have in common?

Forgotten Dreams

Monday, November 1, 2010

2 Kings 4:8-16
My pastor preached this message, last year and I wanted to share it on TERC. The premise of the message was on this lady who was a very kind person that did for everyone but herself. A lot of us get so wrapped up in being busy caring for others or fulfilling what our parents planned for us that we forget some of the things we dreamed for ourselves.

One of the reasons why you could forget your dreams is because you see so many obstacles in your path, you cannot imagine getting to that dream place from where you are currently. In verse 14, Gehazi told Elisha the reasons why it was impossible for the woman to have a child. In Exodus 4:29-31 we see the Israelites filled with hope and joy at the message Moses brought to them about their freedom but in the next chapter, when pressure came they gave up and blamed their problems on God's promise.

The voice of God

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Presented by Yewande Sofolahan

Does he still speak- Preparing your heart to hear God speak.

Tone of mum’s voice/ how she calls my name signals that she’s happy with me or that I’m in trouble. If the tone of her voice is harsh or impatient, then I know that I have done or that I am doing something amiss. If she calls me endearingly using my pet name, then I know she is happy with me. It is only a wise child that would note the pitch, tone and texture of the parents’ voice to know what to expect.

There are many ways in which God speaks. In Rev 1:15, John compared it to the sound of many waters.

Prepare Yourself

Friday, October 15, 2010

Look at the instructions Naomi gave Ruth for approaching Boaz, her future husband, and you’ll see that there’s a certain protocol involved in walking with God. Once you understand it, the things you’ve been waiting for begin to happen. So:

(1) Be sure it’s God’s will for you. Ruth wasn’t looking for just any man; she had a specific one in mind. And because Naomi had done her homework, she was able to tell Ruth where to find him: “He is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor” (Ru 3:2 NKJV). Research what you want from God before you start claiming things in prayer. Be sure it’s what He wants too! If your name’s not on it, don’t pursue it. Don’t go after something because it looks good in someone else’s life. God has a plan for you - one that’s unique and specific. Seek Him and He will reveal it to you

The Vine-dresser's Guide

Friday, October 8, 2010

Presented by Jennifer Abayowa

I've often read that verse in John 15 where Jesus pauses for a second and says, "I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away." I hardly ever stop to take note of the functions of the Vine-dresser. I only think about how we need to stay in the vine in order to grow. It's amazing that I've now studied the functions of the Vinedresser, and the things I found were mind-blowing.

He better have the Basics

Friday, September 24, 2010

Presented by Lekan Oyefesobi
I always wondered when men say they are ready for marriage, what exactly does that mean?
Gen 2:7-10
I want you to notice the God’s sequence. God created Adam. Note that before there was Adam and Eve, it was Adam and God. That’s the way it should be. Before a man marries a woman, he needs to be walking with God.
Immediately after he created man, He created a home for him. And if you continue reading, you’ll notice he created food and water for him.

The Refined Me

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Presented by Ayodeji Olorunnisola
Where is the line that differentiates the pastor from the politician; where is the line distinguishing the saved from the unsaved? What happened to the days where you could distinctly tell the beliefs and very character of a person from their actions and daily life? What happened to the lucid reflection of the Spirit within us?
Genesis 1 vs. 27 - So God created man in His own image.
You walk into the church and the conversations between young people, the look/dress code of the Christian, the seeds planted by the looks between opposite sexes is nothing different than what you would find in the club on Saturday night.
So how are we a reflection of Him?

Loving God

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Bible passages: 1st John 4: 16 & 19-20, 1st John 5: 2-4, Psalm 103

Presented by Chinwe Aneke

Lately, I've been thinking about the concept of love and how/why we love God. I wonder if I pray, fast and worship God for all He has done; and do I do these things for the promises that He has made for my future? I've realized that there's nothing wrong with being thankful for the past. Nothing wrong with praising God for His blessings. But sometimes, I feel like it's not enough. I want to be able to love God and praise Him no matter the circumstance.
When you love someone for the things they can do for you or the pleasure you can derive by being associated with them, I think that you're giving the person a surface (Erotica) kind of love.

A psalm of David.

Friday, September 3, 2010

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Please listen to the Psalm 23 episode under TERC discussions to truly understand this popular chapter.

Have a Spirit Fulfilled day!

Humble Thyself

Friday, August 20, 2010

Presented by Aneatria Allen

Many Christian believers of this world have been afflicted with the “it’s all about me syndrome”. That if the situation or attention is not on them…there is a problem. If they are not getting paid or praised for their work or efforts…they get an attitude. If they are not in charge and enlarged…it’s not worth participating. Many have deduced the entire vocabulary to the word “I”: becoming disillusioned that “I” makes the “team” or “a whole”. Most often hearing statements such as: I do this; I do that; if I had not; or if I had. Sadly but true, most often forgetting what it meant to be “a disciple for Christ”.

Tithes

Friday, August 13, 2010

"Ever since the time of your forefather, you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me and I will return to you say the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. ‘But you ask, “How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse – the whole nation of you – because you are robbing me, “Bring the whole tithe into the store house that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruits says the Lord Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed for yours will be a delightful land says the Lord Almighty ’.

Be Like Shamgar

Friday, August 6, 2010

‘After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an Ox goad. He too saved Israel’.
(Judges 3:31)
Most of you probably haven’t even heard of Shamgar. He is an unsung warrior whose whole life is reduced to one sentence and a powerful one too.
Below are Shamgar’s Secrets

Calling Things The Way They Should Be, Not the Way They Are:

Friday, July 30, 2010

God Did It First:

In Romans 4:9-18, we see that Abraham understood the characteristic of God as the One who "gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did." Therefore, he trusted in God and believed that what God said he would be (the father of all nations) would surely come to pass.

It is God's nature to look upon a non-existent thing and bring it into existence. That's what He does as a creator and as the ultimate architect. As children of God, we are to embody this principle. In Genesis 1:1-4, we find that God looked upon a desolate earth and still said "let there be light."

When God Speaks

Friday, July 23, 2010

Presenter : Seleipiri Akobo

Proverbs 8:34 : "Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favour from the Lord."

(Genesis 3:8) :And they heard the voice of the lord God walking in the garden in the cool of teh day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the lord God amongst the trees and the garden.

(Genesis 17:1) God appeared to Abraham at 99 years of age, telling him to walk upright before him..

John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me"

Holding Back

Friday, July 16, 2010

Some of us have things in our lives that we still hold on tightly to which stunt our growth in Christ. It could be doubt, anxiety, self-pity or secret sins. It is something that you find yourself repeatedly doing in moments of weakness and especially when you are alone, by yourself.

Mind Your Mouth

Friday, July 9, 2010

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
(Psalm 141:3)

The Bible talks a lot about our lips, our speech, and the power of words. Did you know the word "lips" is referred to over 100 times in the Bible? ("Tongue" over 100 times, "words" over 500 times, and "mouth" over 400 times.)

Words can uplift (Prov. 16:24) and destroy (Prov. 15:4). Words can trigger anger or defuse it (Prov. 15:1). God detests lying words (Prov. 6:16-17, Ps. 12:2-4) but seeks those who speak the truth (Ps. 15:2).

Luke 10:2
"2And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant [[a]there is much ripe grain], but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

As we learn through scripture, prayer is our method to commune with God. As believers we must establish and maintain a consistent prayer life to build our relationship with God. During prayer, it is our opportunity to share any and everything, make any request, settle any concerns, ultimately lifting all our burdens to him. But this is also an opportunity for us to listen, wait to hear from Him, receive guidance and instructions to steady our walk with Him. Thus, the purpose of prayer can be narrowed down to three basic actions.

3 Actions of Prayer are to:
1. Communicate with God
2. Listen to God
3. Change things in our lives
