Forgotten Dreams

2 Kings 4:8-16
My pastor preached this message, last year and I wanted to share it on TERC. The premise of the message was on this lady who was a very kind person that did for everyone but herself. A lot of us get so wrapped up in being busy caring for others or fulfilling what our parents planned for us that we forget some of the things we dreamed for ourselves.
One of the reasons why you could forget your dreams is because you see so many obstacles in your path, you cannot imagine getting to that dream place from where you are currently. In verse 14, Gehazi told Elisha the reasons why it was impossible for the woman to have a child. In Exodus 4:29-31 we see the Israelites filled with hope and joy at the message Moses brought to them about their freedom but in the next chapter, when pressure came they gave up and blamed their problems on God's promise.

Prepare Yourself
Friday, October 15, 2010
Look at the instructions Naomi gave Ruth for approaching Boaz, her future husband, and you’ll see that there’s a certain protocol involved in walking with God. Once you understand it, the things you’ve been waiting for begin to happen. So:

The Vine-dresser's Guide
Friday, October 8, 2010
Presented by Jennifer Abayowa
I've often read that verse in John 15 where Jesus pauses for a second and says, "I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away." I hardly ever stop to take note of the functions of the Vine-dresser. I only think about how we need to stay in the vine in order to grow. It's amazing that I've now studied the functions of the Vinedresser, and the things I found were mind-blowing.

Loving God
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Bible passages: 1st John 4: 16 & 19-20, 1st John 5: 2-4, Psalm 103
Lately, I've been thinking about the concept of love and how/why we love God. I wonder if I pray, fast and worship God for all He has done; and do I do these things for the promises that He has made for my future? I've realized that there's nothing wrong with being thankful for the past. Nothing wrong with praising God for His blessings. But sometimes, I feel like it's not enough. I want to be able to love God and praise Him no matter the circumstance.
When you love someone for the things they can do for you or the pleasure you can derive by being associated with them, I think that you're giving the person a surface (Erotica) kind of love.

A psalm of David.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
Please listen to the Psalm 23 episode under TERC discussions to truly understand this popular chapter.
Have a Spirit Fulfilled day!

Calling Things The Way They Should Be, Not the Way They Are:
Friday, July 30, 2010
In Romans 4:9-18, we see that Abraham understood the characteristic of God as the One who "gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did." Therefore, he trusted in God and believed that what God said he would be (the father of all nations) would surely come to pass.
It is God's nature to look upon a non-existent thing and bring it into existence. That's what He does as a creator and as the ultimate architect. As children of God, we are to embody this principle. In Genesis 1:1-4, we find that God looked upon a desolate earth and still said "let there be light."

Holding Back
Friday, July 16, 2010
Some of us have things in our lives that we still hold on tightly to which stunt our growth in Christ. It could be doubt, anxiety, self-pity or secret sins. It is something that you find yourself repeatedly doing in moments of weakness and especially when you are alone, by yourself.

Mind Your Mouth
Friday, July 9, 2010
Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
(Psalm 141:3)
The Bible talks a lot about our lips, our speech, and the power of words. Did you know the word "lips" is referred to over 100 times in the Bible? ("Tongue" over 100 times, "words" over 500 times, and "mouth" over 400 times.)
Words can uplift (Prov. 16:24) and destroy (Prov. 15:4). Words can trigger anger or defuse it (Prov. 15:1). God detests lying words (Prov. 6:16-17, Ps. 12:2-4) but seeks those who speak the truth (Ps. 15:2).

Luke 10:2
"2And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant [[a]there is much ripe grain], but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."
As we learn through scripture, prayer is our method to commune with God. As believers we must establish and maintain a consistent prayer life to build our relationship with God. During prayer, it is our opportunity to share any and everything, make any request, settle any concerns, ultimately lifting all our burdens to him. But this is also an opportunity for us to listen, wait to hear from Him, receive guidance and instructions to steady our walk with Him. Thus, the purpose of prayer can be narrowed down to three basic actions.
3 Actions of Prayer are to:
1. Communicate with God
2. Listen to God
3. Change things in our lives
